Current Information & FAQ

Dear Customer,

When we created this page for you in last year, never did we expect that we were going to have to update it in 2021.

But, it is what it is. All we can do is take it one day at a time. Let us practice resilience and try to view the positive sides of the deceleration that has been imposed on us.

The Crisis Management team of the Fidor Group continues to regularly assess the current situation and decides on the appropriate measures to be taken. We herewith ensure the health and safety of those affected, as well as the ongoing continuity of our daily business.

As a digital financial institution without any physical branches, we already specialise in offering our services online. This means that you do not have to expect any restrictions on our normal daily business.

On this page we've put together the most important questions and most helpful answers about banking and Corona for you.

Take care of yourself and stay healthy.

  • Change of your personal data? Applying for a new FIN? Forgot your password? Activate geoblocking? You can now do all of this and much more in the Fidor Self Services - flexibly, time-saving and without the support of customer service.

  • Our customer service is available from Monday to Friday from 08:00 am to 06:00 pm. The known contact details such as telephone numbers and email addresses remain valid.

  • All teams overseeing our IT systems remain active - there are currently no restrictions on our services.

Our tip: Pay contactless

To ensure your payments remain as hygienic as possible, we recommend, to entirely refrain from using cash, when possible.

With your Fidor Smartcard you can now make contactless payments almost anywhere. For amounts up to € 50, a PIN is usually not required.

Alternatively, you can simply pay with your smartphone: With Apple Pay for iOS (for our private and business customers) or Fidor Pay via Android (exclusively for our private customers), there is no need to enter a PIN, even for larger amounts. This will allow you to keep enough distance while easily authorizing the payment via your smartphone.

FIDOR CARDS

To minimise any potenitial risks to your health: Pay contactless with the Fidor SmartCard and Fidor Debit Mastercard®.

General information for our customers

Our emergency plan ensures, among other things, that Fidor Bank is still accessible, that online banking can be carried out and that all important systems for processing booking and transfer transactions remain active for you.

We recommend that customers observe the general hygiene measures when handling cash, but also at self-service terminals, touch pads, cash register terminals, etc. The Federal Center for Health Education and the Robert Koch Institute (RKI), among others, provide current information on the risks of infection and protective measures.

Contactless payment in particular has a hygienic advantage, since you only have to bring your card or mobile phone close to the merchant's acceptance terminal in order to initiate the payment. We have increased the limit for contactless payments from € 25 to € 50 per transaction, where a PIN is usually not required. Alternatively, you can simply pay with your smartphone: using Apple Pay for iOS or Fidor Pay for Android (exclusively for our private customers), eliminating the need to enter a PIN, even for larger amounts. This allows you to keep enough distance and easily authorize your payments via your smartphone.

Contactless payment without entering the PIN is now possible up to € 50. However, this change was recently introduced, so it may be that some payment terminals of the merchants are not yet technically adjusted to the new limit of € 50.

General information for business customers

KfW entrepreneur and ERP (European Recovery Program) start-up loans can be applied for from KfW via banks and savings banks. Information on this is available on the KfW website. The KfW hotline for commercial loans is: 0800 539 9001.

Fidor Bank is not a contractual partner of KfW as it does not offer any SME loans or real estate loans.

Please contact the KfW hotline directly, this is: 0800 539 9001 and can be reached free of charge from Monday to Friday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.

You can also find out more about the Corona aid program on the FAQ page of the Federal Ministry of Finance:
www.bundesfinanzministerium.de/Content/DE/FAQ/2020-03-13-Corona-FAQ.html

Fidor Bank is currently not a contractual partner of KfW, as it has not offered any loans (until now) for small and medium-sized companies or real estate loans. For this reason, no cooperation with KfW has so far been necessary. However, effects on this group of entrepreneurs can now be expected.

We as Fidor Bank also have customers who are affected by the crisis and who will need the help and loans announced by the government. We are very aware of that. For this reason, we strive for a quick connection to KfW. However, when we can start a future cooperation is still open. We are also dependent on cooperation with KfW, which itself works under high pressure. For example, we are currently unable to make any specific statements as to when an application will be possible through us. We regret this very much.

As your request cannot currently be forwarded to KfW via the Fidor Bank, please go to the following website to apply for funding:

www.kfw.de/KfW-Konzern/Newsroom/Aktuelles/KfW-Corona-Hilfe-Unternehmen.html

Information, contact addresses and application forms can be found on the website of the ministries of economy of the individual federal states.

In the current Corona times, small business owners, medium-sized companies and freelancers can benefit from guarantor banks. The guarantor bank is a non-profit promotional institution and exists in every federal state. They all offer 80 percent default guarantees up to EUR 1.24 million in guarantees with insufficient collateral.

Bundes- and Landesbanken are aimed at SMEs and larger companies. Here too, the conditions differ depending on the federal state.

For merchants who want to find out more about the specific measures in their federal states, the best thing to do is to go to the website of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry (IHK): This has all relevant information which is updated continuously.

Via the „IHK-Finder“ you can quickly find the representatives responsible for your own federal state and their websites.

If the company or practice is at a standstill during an ordered quarantine, a "replacement of the uncovered operating expenses continuing during this period to a reasonable extent" can be requested from the competent authority according to § 56 Infection Protection Act.

There are options for deferring tax payments, for income, corporate and sales tax to give taxpayers and companies a payment-break. The advance payments for income taxes can also be adjusted and the enforcement of overdue tax debts can be waived until the end of the year.

Please contact the tax office on the subject of income tax relief, corporation tax and sales tax. The contact person for taxes administered by the customs administration is your main customs office. Further information on customs and excise tax assistance at the customs administration.

As of November 3, 2020

The 2nd phase of the bridging aid covers the funding months from September to December 2020. Since October 21, 2020, applications can be submitted by tax advisors, auditors, sworn auditors and lawyers. The application process is explained in detail on the website of the Federal Ministry of Finance.

General information on travel bookings during Covid-19 crisis

Basically, bookings / travel bookings / travel contracts are still valid. If you have a right of withdrawal, we recommend that you exercise this right.

If there is no right of withdrawal, it depends on whether the dealer was willing and able to provide the service.

The Mastercard® transaction can only be booked back if the event has been canceled, the hotel has been closed or the flight does not take place.

Please contact your provider or tour operator to find out whether the booked event or trip is taking place in principle.

Examples:

  • If a concert / flight is canceled / prohibited, the customer is entitled to a credit. This means that the amount paid back can be re-booked via the Mastercard® chargeback procedure with the justification “Service not Provided” via the bank.
  • If a hotel is still open, but the guest cannot / does not want / may not arrive, the amount paid cannot be booked back via the bank or Mastercard®.
  • If a flight takes place, but the customer cannot / does not want / may not fly, the amount paid cannot be re-booked via the bank or Mastercard®.

The Mastercard® transaction can only be booked back if the event has been canceled, the hotel has been closed, the flight has not taken place, and so on.If there is no cancellation on the part of the provider, we unfortunately have no right to make a bank transfer request.

Unfortunately, the possibility of rebooking via Mastercard® does not offer an exception for acts of God.

In such a case, we ask you to find an agreement with your contractual partner (provider / tour operator).

If you paid for the trip with your Mastercard®, the transaction can be reversed if the provider / tour operator has canceled or rejected the transaction.

In this case we will be happy to place a remittance order for you. Please forward the documents available to you, including the cancellation, for review.
